Solar Detach and Reset: Estimate the Whole Job
3 min read · updated July 2026 · MESHA Team
Who this is for
Public adjusters and independent adjusters handling roof claims with solar arrays, especially anyone who has watched a per-panel detach and reset line get buried by the real bid. If your market has solar on every third roof, this checklist belongs in your truck.
The problem
The default detach and reset price describes a mechanical task: unbolt, set aside, reinstall. The actual job is a small project. It involves licensed electrical work, utility notification, permits, panel storage, new flashing at every mount, replacement hardware, and a recommissioning test at the end. When the estimate carries only the unit price, the insured eats the difference or the file turns into a serial supplement fight. Either way, you are negotiating from behind, and the licensed labor question means the gap is not something a roofer can quietly absorb on site.
