The Late Supplement Test: Accept or Fight in 5 Questions
3 min read · updated July 2026 · MESHA Team
Who this is for
Independent adjusters reviewing contractor supplements that arrive months into a build, and public adjusters deciding whether a late discovery is worth submitting and defending. Both jobs turn on the same call: is this hidden damage or scope creep?
The problem
Timing tells you nothing by itself. Real hidden damage is found late by definition, and padded scopes also show up late because tired files get less scrutiny. Blanket refusals create disputes you cannot defend, and rubber-stamped approvals train the wrong behavior. What you need is a repeatable test that sorts one from the other and leaves written reasoning in the file.

- How to accept or push back in writing without starting a war
- The six most common late supplement mistakes on both sides of the file
- A worksheet version you can keep on your desk
